There's something about Sammi. Heavenly Queen, Sammi
Cheng, is a familiar name to many. But there's more to 'Sammi' than meets the
eye...

Sexy
Think Sammi and you'll think,"hot bods
in skimpy outfits." But it takes real confidence and a larger-than-life
persona to carry that off onstage. Whether she's dressed in a regal
evening gown, her trademark floral hat or butterfly brassiere,
her fans can't get enough. "I love trying on new images - it gives me
such a deep sense of accomplishment when it is well received."
Perhaps that accounts for some of her more unusual looks, like the Swoosh
eyebrow (reminiscent of Nike's logo) that raised more than a few, er, brows.
Amour
While she gets all excited talking about her different
looks, Sammi is more reserved when it comes to boyfriend
actor/singer Andy Hui. "I have no confidence in
love relationships - there are simply too many factors that could change
one's relationship easily and it's scary." says the love pessimist.
Music
Her recent performance in "Needing
You" may have impressed film critics, but Sammi
feels that her biggest achievement to date is her music.
Although her last few albums hadn't done well - leading to predictions
that she had been ousted by Kelly Chen - she's proven
critics wrong with her latest Cantonese album, "Love
Is... " The album's modern mix of rap, Euro
and Korean dance beats have breathed new life to the usual Canto-pop
tunes and shot her back to the top. "Every artiste has
his or her own music style, and tastes in music change rapidly. I will
try to blend in the latest music fad to bring a new feel to my music."
Movies
Although Sammi's priority is her music
career, there's no hiding her acting talent. She received a Best
New Actress nomination at the 12th Hong Kong Film Awards in 1993,
for her debut performance in "Best Of The Best".
Since then, she's made only seven more movies, averaging one movie a
year. Amongst them, she's had hits like "Feel 100%"
and "Needing You" and misses such as "Wu
Yan".
Insight
After 13 years in showbiz, Sammi
has definitely grown up. She now knows that she doesn't need awards to
make her happy. "I've started to realized that one should
enjoy the process of doing something, and not worry about the end result,
because the result is momentary and will pass very quickly. The process is
more important."
